The living room is usually the most lived-in area of the house, where you can enjoy moments of solitary relaxation or welcome guests for moments of conviviality and companionship. It's precisely for this reason that the design of the living room requires great attention to detail, taking into account its potential.

A very important factor to consider when designing the living area is the functionality of the environment. Each person enjoys their stay and their own relaxation differently, there are those who prefer to read a book, those who take their free time to watch a good film or those who use it as a social space to meet up with friends. So it's important to determine how you want to use it, so that you can choose the most practical location to suit your needs.
Spaces and layout
It's essential to consider the space you have available. For a particularly large living room, the focus should be on a focal point, a prominent corner around which the rest of the furniture can be arranged, whether it's a particular sofa or an imposing table. For smaller rooms, on the other hand, it's worth opting for multifunctional, minimalist solutions to optimise space and make the living room feel more airy. Next, favour light colours so as not to weigh the room down, and make sure you don't obstruct natural light to make the room brighter.
There are different types of living room, depending closely on the layout of the house and the living area itself:

Photo 2 - Side entrance
Photo 3 - Living room linked to kitchen
Direct entry
Living room with direct entrance, with the door opening directly onto the living room, without any type of corridor.
Side entrance
Living room with separate entrance, with a corridor or hallway off the front door. It offers a greater degree of privacy, as it is not directly connected to the entrance to the house.
Living room linked to kitchen
Living room connected to the kitchen, as in the case of open-plan spaces. This is one of the most popular solutions, where one or more walls are knocked down to create lightness and brightness and optimise spaces.
Choosing the right colour for the living room is decisive in creating an atmosphere and enhancing the area most used for leisure activities inside the home. Bright, vivid colours are used to make the environment more sophisticated and full of personality, while light colours give the place serenity and tranquillity.
The atmosphere of the living room according to the colours
Managing the lighting inside the living room becomes fundamental in order to highlight focal points, alternating natural light with artificial light. Reading areas, for example, will need to be well lit: arms, table lamps, wall or arch lamps. To add even more character, a series of choreographed lights can be added for evocative lighting effects, such as floor spotlights or retractable LED lights.
